I am a full-time studio potter living and working in Viroqua, Wisconsin. I make functional pottery in stoneware and porcelain, firing my work in an electric kiln.
My hope is for people who buy my ceramic art to experience it in their everyday activities, building a joyful relationship and association with the purpose and concept that it was made to be used. I want my pots to be as much a part of keeping and containing as they are about giving and serving, which is the very thing we as humans need to embrace. I hope my work creates conversations, interactions, and celebrations in the everyday act of sharing drink and food. I think that is what all functional potters strive for.
At the very least, I would hope my drinking vessels would encourage the user to lift up in a heartfelt salute with others before they hold the cup to their mouth. The clinking sound of a toast, or dishes being passed at a table, rings deep for thousands of years. Let my pots help carry on these traditions!
